Vince Russo, a wrestling veteran, has criticized WWE’s booking ahead of the upcoming Survivor Series: WarGames event. Russo, who is a part of the BroDown podcast, expressed his disappointment with the lack of stakes in the WarGames matches scheduled for the event. According to Russo, the matches lack any real significance or consequences, which makes it difficult for fans to become invested in the storylines.
Russo highlighted that the WarGames matches will feature two teams, the OG Bloodline and CM Punk, along with Solo Sikoa’s crew, with no clear stipulation or consequence for the winning or losing team. He pointed out that the lack of stakes makes it difficult for fans to care about the outcome of the matches. “Why do I care if Reigns’ team wins? So what?” Russo asked, emphasizing his point.
Russo’s criticism is not limited to the men’s WarGames match. He also expressed his concerns about the women’s WarGames match, which will feature Bayley, Bianca Belair, Naomi, IYO SKY, and Rhea Ripley against Liv Morgan, Raquel Rodriguez, Nia Jax, Tiffany Stratton, and Candice LeRae. According to Russo, the women’s match lacks any real significance or storyline, making it difficult for fans to get invested in the match.
Russo’s comments are a reflection of the frustration many fans have expressed in recent times regarding WWE’s booking. The lack of clarity and coherence in the storytelling has led to a decline in fan interest and investment in the product. WWE has a unique opportunity to change the narrative with the upcoming Survivor Series: WarGames event, and it remains to be seen how they will respond to Russo’s criticism.
The Survivor Series: WarGames event is scheduled to take place on November 30 at the Rogers Center in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The event will feature five matches, including the men’s and women’s WarGames matches, as well as the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, Intercontinental Championship, and United States Championship matches. The card for the event is as follows:
Roman Reigns, The Usos, Sami Zayn, and CM Punk vs. Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, Jacob Fatu, and Bronson Reed – Men’s WarGames Match
Bayley, Bianca Belair, Naomi, IYO SKY, and Rhea Ripley vs. Liv Morgan, Raquel Rodriguez, Nia Jax, Tiffany Stratton, and Candice LeRae – Women’s WarGames Match
Gunther (c) vs. Damian Priest – WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match
Bron Breakker (c) vs. Sheamus vs. Ludwig Kaiser – WWE Intercontinental Championship Match
LA Knight (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura – WWE United States Championship Match
It remains to be seen how these matches will play out, but one thing is certain – the WWE needs to revamp its booking strategy to get fans invested in the storylines and the event.
